  8. Fairy Tale Fact! • They often have happy endings. ...and they lived happily ever after.

  9. Fairy Tale Fact! • They usually teach a lesson. Good conquers evil! Never give up! Beauty comes from within!

  12. Fairy Tale Fact! Hans Christian Andersen • Born in 1805 in Odense, Denmark (died in 1875) • Had his first book published when he was 17 • Travelled throughout Europe • Published his first book of fairy tales in 1835 • Wrote “The Princess and the Pea”, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, “The Ugly Duckling”, and many more • He was a dreamer and found magic in everything. • - People of all ages loved his stories (and still do) (Source: Langley, Andrew, “What’s Their Story: Hans Christian Andersen”, 1997)

The Brothers Grimm [Jakob Ludwig Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Karl Grimm (1786-1859)] • Born in Hanau, Germany • They collected stories told by German people in the country so that they wouldn’t be forgotten • These stories had been told for many years but had never been written down • Published their first book of fairy tales in 1812 and their second in 1815 • Known for “Hansel and Gretel”, “Rumpelstiltskin”, “Cinderella” (Source: Solski, Ruth, “Fairy Tales”, 1986)
