  3. What is School Direct? School Direct is an opportunity for schools to play a leading role in recruiting to, designing and delivering initial teacher training

School Direct Routes School Direct Salaried • Quality graduates with 3 or more years’ career experience • Employed as an unqualified teacher • Differentiated funding School Direct (Non Salaried) Fees • Funded by tuition fees paid by the trainee to the HEI • Bursaries are available if trainee meets the qualification criteria HEI will require funding from school Registered by HEI and payment made to school

  5. Bursaries for Non Salaried The trainee is a student of the HEI for the period of training and will receive student support (e.g. loans) and may receive a bursary. Bursaries are exactly the same as awarded to PGCE

Initial teacher training (ITT) criteria • C2.1 That the content, structure, delivery and assessment of programmes are designed to: • a) enable trainee teachers to meet all the standards for QTS across the age range of training, and • b) ensure that no trainee teacher is recommended for the award of QTS until they have met all of the standards for QTS. • C2.2 That they prepare all trainee teachers to teach across two or more consecutive age ranges • C2.4 That training programmes are designed to provide all trainees with at least 60 days of training activity per year. • C2.5 That each trainee teacher has taught in at least two schools.

  9. Cost of Training Programmes Each individual HEI within SWELTEC will have it’s own funding costs. It is vital you check the funding arrangements when approaching the HEI. Be aware of the costs connected with the training and award from each individual HEI.

  10. Requesting Places Registering Interest: • Schools register interest by 1st June 2013. This generates a ‘log in’ number • Please state whether you are a lead school or would like to join a partnership Requesting Places: • From 1st June 2013 • Please state which HEI provider you would like to work with • Please consult with your provider on the type of training and qualification required.

  11. Recruitment and Selection Recruitment material must be open and transparent-not just for a favoured TA Schools must be aware of the ‘Entry Criteria’ laid down nationally for ITT Support in working with an experienced Teaching School alliance ALL UCAS forms sent to school to process

  13. HEI responsibilities - on entry Q U A L I T Y A S S U R A N C E • Administration of bursaries • Resources • Specialist staff, specific expertise • Data entry, tracking and analysis • Recommendation to DfE for QTS • Accreditation of academic qualifications

The Next Steps for 2014-15 By 1ST June 2013 Register interest with NCTL State whether you are the lead school or part of a group of schools Between 02 June – September 2013 Approach your preferred accredited provider Request places through NCTL From October 2013 NCTL advise schools of ITT allocations Schools to recruit trainees Agree training package with accredited provider Agree recruitment and selection processes with the provider By May 2014 Memorandum of Agreement established as part of collaborative processes End June 2014 Interviews completed
