Whither Varicocelectomy? • Incidence of varicocele is 19-40% among infertile men • Mechanism of varicocele causing male infertility unknown • It is probably only a variation in the normal anatomy of testicular venous drainage • NICE guidelines(2013) do not recommend surgery for varicocelectomy among infertile men as it does not improve pregnancy rates • IUI or IVF/ICSI recommended mode of treatment

  3. Follow up of ART babies • Assess the well being of babies born out of IVF/ICSI(fresh/frozen embryo transfers) • Incidence of congenital anomalies is 4% • No genito-urinary abnormalities observed in babies born out of severe male factor fathers • Findings reassuring as they conform with that of natural pregnancies in terms of congenital anomalies, growth and development.

  4. Current trends in Dental management of patients with Chronic Renal Disease • Dental procedures should be carried out on the day after dialysis • Dosage of drugs excreted through kidney should be lowered • Require special care • Consultation with nephrologist is essential before dental treatment is carried out

Case Reports • A case of Venous Air Embolism during paediatric craniotomy in sitting position which requires high vigilance and step wise management • Ocular Thelaziasis in a 4 months old girl child, which is a rare occurrence and needs early diagnosis and treatment • Papillary cystadenoma of minor salivary gland, a benign tumour for which conservative surgical removal is treatment of choice.

Case Reports • Case series of Seizure disorders in pregnancy, that are non-eclamptic • Giant dumbbell trigeminal schwannoma which account for <8% of intra cranial schwannomas pose a great surgical challenge in complete removal • Kearns-Sayre syndrome, a rare neuromuscular disorder whose first signs are ptosis of the eyes, is caused due to mutations in mitochondrial DNA.

  7. Study design • Clinical research falls into two categories-observational and experimental • Observational studies are either analytical or descriptive • Experimental trials can be randomized or non-randomized clinical trials

  8. Medical Tidbits • Mind the diet for a timely delivery • Killer diet • Not that sterile • Diabetes is after women’s heart • Rhythm and diet to keep the bowel quiet
