  2. A radical equation is an equation containing a radical with a variable under the radical sign. Steps to Solving • Isolate the radical expression. • If there are two, isolate one at a time. • Undo the operation performed by the radical. • If the square root is taken, square both sides. • If the nth root is taken, raise both sides to the nth power. • Simplify and solve for the variable. • CHECK YOUR ANSWER! • There may be extraneous solutions(solutions that do not work in the original problem)

  6. Radical Inequalities • If the index is even, identify the values of the variable for which the radicand is nonnegative. • (you cannot have a negative # underneath the radical with an even index) • Solve the inequality algebraically. • Test values to check your solution.
