  3. General Policies Communication: • rhms.buckeyeusd.org: Daily Agenda/Homework-posted on School Loop/Announcements. Also Student Handbook • eSchoolPLUS: Grades updated weekly • Email/Voice Mail: Please allow 24-hour turn-around time DiMauro: ext. 31 or jdimauro@buckeyeusd.org Cox: ext. 3162 or kcox@buckeyeusd.org • Binder Reminder: Write assignments daily • Weekly Grade Checks: Assigned Friday Due on Mondays • Conferences: September 22-26, 2014 (not all students have a conference). Also by parent or teacher request. • Student Handbook: Know the rules and regulations.

  4. Contracts: • State requires a written notice one week prior to contract dates when absent a minimum of five school days. •  Work is due upon return to school. • Please inform us, in advance, of any absences less than five days during the year as we will try to provide work so students can keep up with their studies.

  5. Homework/Grading: • Homework: Assigned Monday through Thursday to reinforce the lessons and occasional weekend homework – expect an average 1½hrs/night . • Homework Help: Class time, Exploratory/Pride, schedule time with teacher and Homework Club • Grading System: Grades are averaged by points 100% = A+ 79% = C+ 99 – 92% = A 78 – 72% = C 91 – 90% = A- 71 – 70% = C- 89% = B+ 69% = D+ 88 – 82% = B 68 – 62% = D 81 – 80% = B- 61 – 60% = D- 59% and below = F • Missing assignments: Calculated as a zero in the grade book when posted • Absence Work: One day for each day absent;Student’s responsibility to obtain and complete work. IF absence work is not completed on time, it will be considered late work. • Late Work: Late work accepted for partial credit is due the first Monday after the original due date. • No Name Basket: No name papers will receive partial credit. • Grading System: Tests=40%, Quizzes=30%, CW/HW=30% (Except LA) Tests=40%, Quizzes=25%, CW/HW=25%, AR =10% • Extra Credit: Above and beyond (not a way to save a grade) • MLA Format: typed or cursive – blue or black ink

Social Studies • Instructional Model: Content reading and note-taking Maps for each civilization Interactive Activities (TCI/History Alive) Research papers and expository essays throughout the year “Big Book” pages and other “end of unit” activities • Presentations: Parent/Guest Speakers (Been traveling? Cultural sharing?) • Community Service Project (to be determined) • Assessments: Chapter tests, vocabulary quizzes, section quizzes, projects and essays

Exploratory • Purpose: Enrich/Support the Curriculum • Activities: Curriculum Art Math Masters TCI – History Keyboarding Guest Speakers Literature Circles Reader’s Theater • Any Experts: Parents are encouraged to share their expertise gained through their own hobbies, education, profession or other experiences. • Grades: Class Participation Projects/Presentations in Class

Reading & Pride Period • Purpose: Build/Support Classroom Connections & Culture to support this years theme: • Activities: Accelerated Reader materials and tests School Business/Bulletin Study Skills: How to be successful in sixth grade using the Binder Reminder, organization, test taking, etc. Team Building Website tools • Supplies: Need to be brought to school daily! Need supplies allyear long! A book to read (AR Book) at all times! • Schedule Changes: Your child’s schedule may be subject to change due to conflicts, exploratory/pride or other classroom dynamics. We will keep you posted on any changes as they occur.
