    2. The WA Training Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of apprentices, trainees and vocational students, and the contribution to training made by trainers, training organisations and employers. The awards are in their seventeenth year. Background

WA Apprentice of the Year 2011 WA School-based Apprentice of the Year 2011 WA Trainee of the Year 2011 WA Vocational Student of the Year 2011 WA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year 2011 WA Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Training Award 2011 WA Trainer of the Year 2011 WA Small Business of the Year 2011 WA Employer of the Year 2011 WA Training Initiative 2011 WA VET in Schools Excellence 2011 WA Small Training Provider of the Year 2011 WA Large Training Provider of the Year 2011 WA International Training Provider of the Year 2011 Categories in 2011

    5. purpose to showcase migrants overcoming challenges by undertaking training. winner will become an ambassador for other migrants. category promotes multiculturalism, a key focus for the Office of Multicultural Interests. New award Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Training Award

    6. VET in Schools Excellence and Training Initiative categories no longer have national pathway directly to the Australian Training Awards via the WA Training Awards. The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations has introduced the National Focus Awards. Applications will be managed through DEEWR. Criteria will be availible early next month. National Focus Awards

    7. The following categories are most appropriate for schools and or students to apply: WA School-based Apprentice of the Year 2011 WA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year 2011 WA Training Initiative 2011 WA VET in Schools Excellence 2011 Application kits to be distributed to VET Coordinators in all school last week of March. Entering the Awards

    9. Direct mail – application kits, posters and brochures Advertising – Training Matters, PerthNow Editorial and media – Training Matters, industry publications and ongoing media exposure Website dtwd.wa.gov.au/trainingawards Social networking sites Promoting the Awards

    10. We rely heavily on your support in promoting the awards. Encourage as many applications as possible! Suggested channels to promote the awards: Staff meetings School Newsletters – a short blurb and logo School website – link directly to the WA Training Awards website Encouraging students to join the WA Training Awards Facebook page A letter from the Principal to potential students encouraging them to enter Assist us in promoting the awards

    11. 13 May (5.00pm) applications close 15 July semi finalist judging day Semi finalists are interviewed by selection panels, four finalists and one winner in selected 16 September WA Training Awards presentation dinner at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre 25 November Australian Training Awards (Brisbane) Critical dates
