MUNTII VULCANICI • Se intind din Alaska si pana in Golful californiei • S- au format datorita subductiei placii pacifice sub cea nord americana • Cea mai mare parte dintre acesti munti au altitudini de peste 3000m si sunt foarte activi • Cel mai important lant montan este cel al Mt. Cascadelor unde se afla renumitul vulcan St. Helens (2723m)

  6. MUNTII DE INCRETIRE • Se intind asemeni celor vulcanici din Pen. Alaska si pana in Mexic • Altitudinile variaza foarte mult,numeroase ramuri depasesc 3500m • Cei mai inalti sunt Siarra Nevada (4418m). Alaska(6187 ), Big Horn (4013m), Sierra Blanca(4386m) • Sectorul estic datorita numeroaselor stancarii a fost denumit M-tii Stancosi, denumire ce s – a extins si la restul grupelor • Stancosii s-au format in timpul cutarilor tertiare intimp ce M-tii Appalashi sunt mai vechi( hercinici), intens modelati si au altitudini reduse GHETARUL HYDER ALASKA MUNTII ASPEN
