Ohio Strategic Planning Committee for Distance Education • Commissioned to create “big ideas” for expanding “access, quality, economic development, and educational attainment” (USO metrics) through distance (online & blended) learning. • Co-chaired the “PLAQA” committee (Professional Learning, Assessment, Quality Assurance) — just finished report.
PLAQA Charge To develop an integrated, statewide strategic initiative for faculty/instructor professional development informed by the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. • Within this initiative, strategies to scale up breadth of impact (from isolated individuals and groups to universal impact) and type of impact (from awareness and skill mastery to changes in practice) will be used to support student success. Nationally recognized programs such as Quality Matters™ and the Council on Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) Prior Learning Assessment, and technologies such as virtual worlds, simulations, e-portfolios, webinars, intelligent and pedagogical agents, m-learning and others will be used. • Targeted populations include faculty, instructors, teachers and instructional designers within PK-20 institutions, adult career centers and ABLE programs. The crucial role of assessment and the continuous improvement of our educational efforts will be a guiding philosophy. Benchmarks and metrics will ensure these strategies and programs are meeting goals and making adequate progress. • OLN Center for Excellence E-learning hosting a recognition of BGSU’s preparedness • Final Report to be issued December 22nd to • Chancellor Fingerhut.
