  2. THE LOCATION OF MAHALAXMI LAKE; VADGAON MUMBAI Vadgaon Kolhapur The Mahalaxmi Lake is located in Vadgaon Town and is at 13 Km in North-East direction of Kolhapur City.

  3. VADGAON – SOME IMPORTANT FEATURES • Vadgaon Town has historical background. The name of Vadgaon Town is associated with the names of Great Warriors in Maratha History viz. Santaji Ghorpade & Dhanaji Jadhav. It is said that the Land was awarded to these warriors for their Bravery. • Vadgaon town is located at 2 Km off NH4 and is situated at a distance of 19 Km North-East of Kolhapur City, which is popularly known as ‘Dakshin Kashi’. Kolhapur is famous for the “Mahalaxmi Temple” and is a well-known center of Art, Education, Industry and Sports - particularly wrestling. • The Vadgaon town has population of @ 30,000. The town was set by Maharaja of Kolhapur Sansthan Chh. Shahu from view point of providing a central market place for surrounding nearby 35 big & small towns. Since then, the Vadgaon is prominent market place for locally manufactured products of agriculture, grocery, etc. it is found that large number of visiting population i.e. about 10,000 to 15,000 people routinely visit this market. • Moreover, it has become a prominent picnic spot because of pleasant climate, good environmental surroundings & existing Amusement Park. • Vadgaon has big Brahmnic Temple of the Goddess Laxmi, which was built as per Hemadpanthi style.

  6. THE MAHALAXMI LAKE; VADGAON – HIGHLIGHTS OF ITS INCLUSION UNDER NLCP • A DPR was prepared regarding the Mahalaxmi Lake of VMC at Vadgaon, Tal. Hatkanangale, Dist. Kolhapur as per the guidelines of NLCP & the same was submitted to the ‘Director, DoE, Govt. of Maharashtra, Mumbai’ on the date 28.04.2003. • The DPR was evaluated at DOE and eventually was forwarded by the State Govt. to MoEF; New Delhi on 12.08.2003 • The DPR was approved by MoEF on 17.03.2005 vide a letter No. J-16011 / 15 / 2003-NRCD • The MoEF sanctioned Rs. 1.85 Crore as Project Expenditures against the proposed cost of Rs. 2.633 Crores in the DPR • The Govt. of India’s share was fixed to be Rs. 1.295 Cr and that of the Vadgaon Municipal Council’s as Rs.0.555 Cr.

  24. ASSESSMENT OF CONDITION OF THE MAHALAXMI LAKE WATER • The Monitoring of Lake water was done before commencement of the Project under NLCP. Thereafter, the procedure w.r.t. same has been continued over the entire period of project execution. • The parameters that are monitored include- • pH • Secchi Disc Transparency • Suspended Solids • Dissolved Oxygen • Biochemical Oxygen Demand • Chemical Oxygen Demand • Hardness • Alkalinity • Chlorides • Phosphorus • Nitrates as NO3 • Nitrites as NO2 • MPN
