  1. Welcome to 3rd GradeCurriculum Night

  2. School Hours • School doors will be open at 7:10 a.m. • Students are considered tardy if they • are not in the classroom by the 7:40 • a.m. bell • Dismissal time is 2:40 p.m. • Early release days dismiss at • 11:40 a.m.

  3. Homework • 30 minutes a day (Monday – Thursday) • Tic-Tac-Toe Menu Board for Spelling and Math • Extra Reading - read to parents or read to self

  4. Snacks • Third grade has a snack break each morning after Block Class (10:15a.m.) Please send healthy snacks. • Only water bottles allowed in the • classroom. • Please remember that we have several students with tree and peanut allergies.

  5. Class DoJo • Behavior management tool • Positive and negative points • Students earn points to receive rewards • Parents can access student’s report daily

  6. Math • Emphasis on place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, geometry and fractions • Inquiry Based Learning: hands-on manipulatives, interactive activities, student collaboration, and problem solving

  7. Language Arts • Genres - variety of genres, including fantasy, fables, folktales, poetry, and biographies • Inquiry Based Learning - interactive activities, student collaboration, problem solving, Guided Reading, and Reader’s Writer’s Response Journals • Spelling – words will be sent home weekly in their Day Planner (should be signed daily) • Social Studies - has been integrated into the Language Arts program

  8. Science Inquiry Based Learning- hands-on experiments, interactive activities, and student collaboration Science Journal – students are expected to keep a record of their learning in their journals

Testing • Beginning of the Year (BOY) – September 9-20 • Math – Aimsweb, Kathy Richardson Universal Screeners for Assessing Math Concepts • Reading - Aimsweb, DRA (by student’s needs only) • Middle of the Year (MOY) – January 6-17 • Math – Aimsweb • Reading – Aimsweb • End of the Year (EOY) – May 5-16 • Math – Aimsweb • Reading – Aimsweb • STAAR Testing • Math April 22 • Reading April 23

  10. Third Grade Communication • Teacher Website • Newsletter – Each Monday • Please send a note with your • child if they are going home any • way that is different from their • normal routine. • Without a note stating changes, • we must send your child home • their regular way.
