  1. Education I-IV Update on redesign of program

Unit outcomes in the core program have been reworked in order to: • strengthen coherence across the program i.e, reduce repetition, reflect developmental expectations • map onto NSW IT and AITSL professional standards • build consistency of expectations e.g., 6-9 outcomes expressed in terms of evidence to be assessed; 3 assessment tasks of roughly equivalent weighting; generic capability skills included in assessment task descriptions • one assessment task in each unit has been identified as an eportfolio task to be resubmitted in the final core unit

PROPOSEDnew unit capstone unit • A new 6 credit point unit will replace EDUF4044 Reading and Design Research. • This new unit will be completed through an equivalent of 36 contact hours made up: • 8 hours Advisory group participation in Years 1-2 • 18 hours Community Engagement project • 8 hours contact with Mentor. • Assessment will be completed through two Exhibitions – one in semester IV and one in semesters VII or VII.

  4. PROPOSAL for the creation of Advisory Groups • This redesigned program is underpinned by the creation of small Advisory Groups composed of no more than ten students to be facilitated by a permanent member. Advisories will be supported by a combination of face-to-face and online communication. • In Years 1-2, across all programs, during Weeks 4 and 9, regular classes will be replaced by Advisory Groups that meet for two hours during scheduled seminar times. For the remainder of the time in these weeks, students will available to collaborate on group-work assignments, participate in school visits, meet with mentors, conduct community engagement projects, etc. • In 2012, Advisory Groups will be made up of first year students only. In subsequent years, the groups will have a vertical structure composed on 5 first year and 5 second year students. The vertical nature of the groups is intended to facilitate peer-mentoring.
