  1. Welcome to Mrs. Girardot’s Math ClassThe Texas Partnership for Accomplished Teaching is an organization of National Board Certified Teachers . Mrs. Ann Girardot 35th Year Teaching in Austin I.S.D. National Board Certified Math Teacher One of two Math NBCTs at Anderson! 1st Period ~ Geometry 2nd Period ~ GMAPS 3rd Period ~ Geometry 4th Period ~ Geometry 5th Period ~ Geometry 6th Period ~ Geometry 7th Period ~ GMAPS 8th Period ~ Conference

  2. Important & Interesting Info: I have taught in Austin ISD for 34 years; this is my 35th year. (The first 16 years of my career was at Reagan & last 18 years have been at Anderson) I have taught Geometry or Pre-AP Geometry every year. I have also taught Algebra I and Algebra II (Regular and Pre-AP), Math Models, MAPS, and many other Math courses! I am currently one of two Math National Board Certified Teacher at Anderson I sponsor the National Honor Society and teach the Anderson Summer PSAT & SAT after school Preparation classes, for juniors. I am also the Geometry Team Leader. All three of my own children attended Anderson…it is a great school! Michael graduated in 2004 and is a musician in New Orleans in the band, The Revivalists. Marie graduated in 2007 & works for the Continuing Education Engineering Program at UT, and Michelle graduated in 2012 and is a junior at The University of Houston, studying Vocal Performance, Opera, and Business. She studied abroad in Germany last year.

  3. As a NBCT, I focus on the 5 Core Propositions for Teaching: • Proposition 1: Teachers are committed to students and learning. I believe all students can learn and grow. I believe “effort creates ability!” I never give up on students! • Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. To become a NBCT, I tested in Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, Technology, Discrete Math, and Calculus. • Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. I teach bell to bell, and work many problems with students in class, every period. My goal is to keep students actively involved in learning the entire period! • Proposition 4: Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience. I am always learning how to improve as an educator. • Proposition 5: Teachers are members of learning communities. I am a member of the Anderson Geometry & Math Teams, and often discuss strategies with teachers at Bowie and other AISD schools, so as to improve instruction and improve student learning.

  4. My Goals for Students: • To develop problem solving & logical reasoning skills. • To improve student’s numerical , Algebraic, and Geometric fluency skills, so they can solve problems, quickly, efficiently, and accurately. • To relate learning to real world experiences. • To prepare students for future courses and for standardized tests such as PSAT and SAT tests.

  5. What works???? The best way to help your son/daughter to be successful is to: • Encourage them to have a study buddy. • Provide snacks for study and review sessions in your home. • Encourage them to seek help in tutoring if they have questions. • Say, “Coming for tutoring is a sign of maturity, not a sign of weakness.” • Talk to them about what you do when you have questions on the job. Discuss the importance of good problem solving & logical reasoning skills. • Remind your son/daughter that “Effort Creates Ability!” • Monitor that they are completing assignments & turning them in, on time! • Check grades often on the parent portal! • Email me when you have concerns or see problems.

  6. My Normal Tutoring Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30-8:55 am. Two or 3 times a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, during F.I.T. (Flexible Instruction Time), from 10:30-10:55 am. Students must sign up online by Monday morning, as spaces for my F.I.T. tutoring sessions fill up fast! Occasional after school or lunch tutoring, only on the weeks when we have a Major Test! Other times by appointment only.
