Navigating Political Dynamics: British Intelligence and Information in South Asia, 1770-1830
This study explores the challenges faced by the British Empire in South Asia regarding information gathering and political access between the 1770s and 1830. It examines the military engagement with local powers like Mysore and the Marathas, highlighting how advancements in mobility and technology, along with local intelligence networks, influenced British expansion. Despite efforts, the East India Company struggled due to their contempt for indigenous knowledge systems and lack of cultural competence, affecting their ability to effectively gather and utilize critical information for military and strategic success.
