Intro Jesus called the word of God “Scripture” and said it “cannot be broken” – Jn. 10:35 • The Scriptures are the source for guidance in religious matters. • The Scriptures are authoritative and are to be obeyed. Scripture: • G1124 Graphe: “a document, i.e. holy Writ (or its contents or a statement in it): Scripture.” Both Old and New Testaments are Scripture: • I Tim. 5:18: Paul quotes from Deut. 25:4 & Lk. 10:7 (Mt. 10:10). • II Pet. 3:14-16: Peter refers to Paul’s epistles as Scripture. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15. and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17. so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 4 characteristics of Scripture: • They have Power • They are inspired of God • They are profitable • They are complete The word of God is powerful, complete and equips saints “for every good work!” Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

Power of Scripture II Tim. 3:15 15. and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. We know from the text that they are “able” (Mighty) • “Able”: G1410 dunamai: “to be able or possible: be able, can (do), could, may, might, be possible, be of power.” Old Testament • Jer. 5:14 • Jer. 23:29 New Testament • Jn. 12:48 • Heb. 4:12 • Rom. 1:16 • Heb. 1:1-3 Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

Power of Scripture Transforming power • Acts 2:36-38, 41: Jews on Pentecost went from murderers to saints! • I Cor. 6:9-11: Corinthians went from immoral people to saints! • I Thess. 1:8-10: Thessalonians turned from idols to serve God! The Scriptures have the power to convict and to save souls! Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; “All Scripture is inspired by God” • Inspiration:G2315 theopneustos: “God-breathed. Inspired by God; referring to communication with deity. Given by inspiration of God.” God inspired the writers of the Scripture through the Holy Spirit • II Pet. 1:16-21: Scripture & prophecy • Gal. 1:11-12: Gospel from God • I Cor. 14:37-38: Scripture God’s commandment • I Thess. 2:13: Gospel the word of God! All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Teaching (KJV: “Doctrine”): • Word of God is to be taught! (II Tim. 2:24: “Able to teach”) • Mt. 28:18-20; II Tim. 2:2; Acts 8:25-40 Reproof • G1649 elegxis: “from G1651; refutation, i.e. reproof: rebuke.” • G1651 elegcho: “to confute, admonish: convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove.” • Rom. 1:20; Jn. 20:30-31 Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Correction: • This means to set straight (G1882 epanorthosis:“straighten up, reform”). • Jesus used the Scriptures to correct religious leaders on numerous occasions: • Mt. 21:42-43; Mt. 22:29; Lk. 10:25-29; Jn. 10:30-36; II Tim. 2:24-26 Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; Training in Righteousness: • Instruction in how we are to conduct ourselves (I Tim. 3:15) • Rom. 2:16; Gal. 5:22-26; Heb. 5:14 The Scriptures either commend or condemn what we are doing!   10. Completeness of Scripture II Tim. 3:17 (NKJ) 17. that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. Ignorance is no longer a valid excuse (Acts 17:30): • It is up to us to know His will for our lives! • II Pet. 1:2-3 • Jude 3; Gal. 1:6-9; II Jn. 9; Rev. 22:18-19 II Pet. 1:2-3 2. Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3. seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. The Scriptures are complete and contain “everything pertaining to life and godliness!” Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

  11. Conclusion The Word of God is powerful and complete It is so powerful it can change the hearts of men who murdered the Son of God! (Acts 2:36-38) It can change your heart! (I Cor. 6:11: “Such were some of you”) Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

Conclusion What can be done with Scripture? • II Tim. 3:14: It can be learned & continued in • Acts 17:11: It can be examined (Studied – II Tim. 2:15) • Lk. 24:45: It can be understood (Eph. 3:4) • Jn. 2:22: It can be believed • Jn. 12:48: It can be rejected • II Pet. 3:16: It can also be misused and distorted Where do you stand today? Have you obeyed the gospel, or rejected it? God’s word is Truth, is powerful and complete, and will either commend us or condemn us! Scriptures: “Everything Pertaining To Life & Godliness”

  13. “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Hear The Gospel (Jn. 5:24; Rom. 10:17) Believe In Christ (Jn. 3:16-18; Jn. 8:24) Repent Of Sins (Lk. 13:35; Acts 2:38) Confess Christ (Mt. 10:32; Rom. 10:10) Be Baptized (Mk. 16:16; Acts 22:16) Remain Faithful (Jn. 8:31; Rev. 2:10) For The Erring Child: Repent (Acts 8:22), Confess (I Jn. 1:9), Pray (Acts 8:22)
