Suggestions of Postmodernism • Post modernism basically suggests the idea that in today’s culture anything can be art, therefore blurring the lines between literature, politics and just culture in general. It also states that nothing is new anymore, as culture in merely just repeating itself in today’s world.

  3. Postmodernism As A Whole • Jonathan Kramer states the idea that postmodernism (including musical postmodernism) is less a surface style or historical period than an attitude.

  4. Postmodern Philosophers • Postmodernist philosophers like Jean Baudrillardemphasize how the barriers between art, literature and a wider political and social life are now non-existent.

  5. Dubstep • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AikrRAhTZ8 • Even Dubstep, which has recently become incredibly popular with today’s youth, emerged way before today. Starting in the 1990s, it came out of the productions by EL-B, Steve Gurley and Oris Jay.

  6. Madonna .vs. Lady Gaga • A very strong suggestion of ‘culture eating itself’, is with Lady Gaga’s outrageous behaviour, outfits and music. However, most things she has done can be rooted back to Madonna. Both of these stars have adopted a certain persona, an essence of extravagance and rebellion in their own period of time.

  7. Madonna & Marylin Monroe • As previously mentioned, Lady Gaga’s music and image seem greatly influenced by Madonna. However, Madonna’s first big hit music video ‘Material Girl’, is linked back to Marylin Monroe’s ‘Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend’ as they are both featured doing a very similar routine throughout the clip. Although, this is blatantly intentional, whilst Lady Gaga’s fascination with Madonna is more subtle.

  8. Katy Perry & Cyndi Lauper • Much like Lady Gaga and Madonna, Katy Perry’s feel good nature in her songs is very similar to that of Cyndi Lauper’s. Both of their works possess a certain tone, aimed at young girls who love partying, displaying their rebellious and playful nature. This is seen in Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun’ and Katy Perry’s ‘Last Friday Night’.
