  3. Sample Daily Schedule

  4. Switching Classes • Students at Creekview move from class to class and will have 3 core teachers • Unified Arts rotates on an A, B, C schedule • Unified Arts classes include: art, physical education, music, library, guidance, and technology

  5. Common Core • The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades K - 12.  The standards have been developed by teachers across the country and are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world • The Common Core stresses not only procedural skill but also conceptual understanding, to make sure students are learning and absorbing the critical information they need to succeed at higher levels.  Both ELA and Mathematics standards focus students on developing the skills and perseverance to engage in sustained problem solving and research. • To assist in accomplishing the Common Core State Standards Creekview is engaging in the adoption of a new math program. No longer will the Every Day Math be used.

PowerSchool • In August you will receive a letter explaining how you can connect to PowerSchool • PowerSchool is used to record attendance, grades, assignments, and medical information • You will be able to monitor your child’s grades online • Interims will be provided online instead of quarterly paper copies

Breakfast & Lunch • Same pin # • EZ Pay • Milk only: 65 cents • Lunch cost $3.00 • reduced cost is 40 cents • Lunch includes: • Main entrée • 2 vegetables • 1 fruit • 1 milk • Many options • Additional snack items available for purchase • Breakfast cost $1.75 • reduced cost is 30 cents • Breakfast includes: • Main entrée • 1 fruit • 1 milk

  10. Extra-Curricular Activities • 5th grade students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, including: • Creekview Theater Guild • Destination Imagination • Student Council • Dodgeball tournament • Art project competitions

Making Friends • Creekview offers a unique opportunity for students to meet and become friends with other students from all over the district • Homerooms are composed of students from all five elementary schools • Students are involved in activities that involve the whole team • Students get the chance to interact with students from their team and other teams during lunch

  12. School Counselor…… • Provides academic and emotional support • Teaches guidance classes • Answers questions, listens, and helps students figure out how to deal with difficult situations • Great resource for parents

  13. Bullying/Harassment Bullying can be a problem. Talk to your child about what bullying is, what to do if it happens to him/her, and what to do if it’s happening to someone else. Creekview has many people for students to talk with about this topic: the principal, the teacher, the counselor….

Internet SafetyBe sure to review Creekview’s internet usage policy with your child • Spend time with your child online • Discuss what you believe are appropriate websites • Have your child show you his/her favorite websites • Monitor the screen/history of your child’s internet access • Monitor closely their Facebook activity • Monitor your child’s texting, instagram, and telephone calls

Orientation 5th Grade Student Orientation • August 11 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM • August 12 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM • Turn in paperwork and pay fees • Get locker assignments • Visit classrooms • Meet administration • Students can practice locker combinations • Students can put supplies in their lockers • Transportation information, PTO information, etc.

  17. Meet the Teacher Night • August 13th 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM • Tour team locations and teachers’ classrooms • Turn in paperwork and pay fees • Revisit locker, practice locker combinations, put supplies in lockers • Meet teachers, counselors, administrators • Curricular information

  18. Staggered Start Will follow same plan as elementary buildings • August 18 – students with last names starting in A - G • August 19 – students with last names starting in H - O • August 20 – students with last names starting in P – Z • August 21 - First day for ALL students at Creekview
