  1. Patent liability ANALYSIS ECE477 TEAM01 WallE Prototype I Ranmin Chen

  2. Project overview • The design project Wall-E Prototype I is an intelligent automated trash collecting robot with obstacle detection capability. The robot responses to either user’s direct manual control, or the object tracking software, to locate and collect the targeted trash object

  3. US8272466 ROBOT • Filing date: 2007-01-17 • Similarities: 1. A traveling unit including a pedestal and a running wheel at a lower portion of the traveling unit. 2. This device will detect the position of a person in the surrounding area and guide the person to the destination. • Key differences: 1. The traveling unit jointed to the main body by a joint shaft so that the pedestal of the traveling unit and the main body are rotatable relative to each other. 2. Our project will detect the position of a specific object in the surrounding area and trace that object.

  4. US7784570 • Filing date: 2007-08-06 • Similarities: 1. Each flipper has a drive wheel. 2. Motive power elements distributed among the chassis volume and the flipper volumes. • Key differences: 1. The first set of flippers is disposed between the second set of flippers and the chassis in this model. 2. The first set of flippers are rigidly coupled to the chassis, and the second set of flippers are rotatable 360 degrees about a pivot axis near a forward end of the chassis, the first and second of flippers having a drive axis common with the pivot axis.

  5. US4441020 • Filing date: 1981-06-03 • Similarities: 1. To detect the position and direction of an object. 2. The object is sensed by a set of sensing elements. 3. The sensor is controlled to trace the object depending on the detected position and the direction of the object. • Key differences: 1. This patent was using optical head as sensor. Meanwhile our project is using a wireless camera and ultrasonic sensors. • Already expired

  6. US787318 WALL-E • Filing date: 1903-12-29
