  1. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 Psalm 51:1-19

  2. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 Lord willing, this sermon series will review: 1. Exodus 20. 7. Matthew 5. 2. Psalms 1 & 23. 8. Romans 8. 3. Psalm 51. 9. 1Corinthians 13. 4. Psalm 119. 10. 1Corinthians 15. 5. Proverbs 31. 11. Hebrews 11. 6. Isaiah 40. 12. James 2.

  3. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 This is the zenith of the penitential psalms. There may be no more impassioned for beautiful prayer for forgiveness and renewal in the Bible than here.

  4. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 Opening cry for mercy (1,2). Expression of the enormity of his sin (3-5). Increasing emphasis on inner change (6-12). Anticipating deliverance, vows to praise God and tell others of His grace (13-17). David asks God’s blessing on the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem (18,19).

  5. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 David’s Confession of Sin (51:1-5). Dominated by the sense of his wrong doing, David comes to God as a beggar, asking that to which he can claim no intrinsic right. He rests his case squarely on God’s nature.

  6. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 David’s Plea for Purging (51:6-12). Salvation would include a new outlook. A willing spirit is probably a free and generous disposition to serve Yahweh, which he feels he cannot create by his own efforts.

  7. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 Promises and Petitions (51:13-17). Verses 13-17 alternate vow and continued petition. Such great deliverance would demand proclamation. No atoning sacrifices were indicated in the OT for sins like adultery and murder. Presumably God would accept the sacrifice offered by the person described in 51:17.

  8. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 Regarding Zion (51:18,19). It would seem that God cannot be praised aright until the city is rebuilt, just as in verses 1-17 He cannot be praised aright until a life is rebuilt.

  9. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 David’s Sin is Forgiven. (2Sam. 12:13). Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” And Nathan said to David, “The LORD also has taken away your sin; you shall not die.”

  10. The Greatest Chapters in the Bible Psalm 51 Psalm 51: 1. Shows the depth of agony and despair one can feel when they know they have sinned. 2. Does not teach total hereditary depravity. 3. Teaches that God will forgive the penitent.
