  3. Who isPaul Watson? • Paul Franklin Watson, is a controversial and outspoken Canadian animal rights and environmental activist. • He founded and is presidentof the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, a direct action group devoted to marine conservation. By: Rainbow Shi

Their beauty, intelligence, strength, and spirit have inspired me. History • The idea of Sea Shepherd was formed when Captain Paul Watson founded the Earth Force Society in Vancouver BC, Canada. • The maiden voyage of the Se a Shepherd under the command of Watson is a journey across the Atlantic accomplished in two weeks and the ship arrives at the Port of Boston in mid-January. • Captain Watson travels to Lisbon to discover the Sierrabeing repaired at dockside. • He also discovers that the Sea Shepherd has been ordered confiscated without charges, a court hearing, or a defense allowed. Oxfam's Definition of a global citizen • He has the understanding of how the world works economically, politically, socially, culturally, technologically, and environmentally. -- His action of to save the marine animals by the illegal fishing didn’t break any marine law, so it shows he understand that his action should be under the law.

Oxfam's Definition of a global citizen • Is outraged by social injustice. -- he thinks every life has the right to survive, he and the volunteers decide to save the marine animal from illegal fishing. He said: "Nemo understood that it did not matter what humans thought, because humanity was the problem. His duty was to save life in the sea from the greed of mankind. I understand that philosophy and I have lived it every day of my adult life." By:rainbow

Oxfam's Definition of a global citizen • Is willing to act to make the world a more equitable and sustainable place. -- he has protest the marine animals for 31 years, and 4000 volunteers had been with him, he wants to keep doing this in his rest life. --Some people just feel sorry about those been killed animals, but they didn’t do any potent action to help those animals. And some people say Paul Watson is futiled and he said: “"I don't care. I do what I do because it is the right thing to do. I am a warrior and it is the way of the warrior to fight superior odds.“ By:rainbow

Awards/Commendations • Watson was awarded an honorary citizenship to the French town of St. Jean Cap Ferrat. • Previous to that he was made an honorary citizen of the Florida Keys. • Other awards include Toronto City TV's Environmentalist of the Year Award and the Genesis Award and he was enrolled in the U.S. • He was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the environmental heroes of the 20th Century in the year 2000. • By: Rainbow Shi

Activism • Over the years, Watson has exhibited a remarkable diversity in his activism. • Aside from being a co-founder of Greenpeace Greenpeace International, and founder of Sea Shepherd, Watson was a Field Correspondent for Defenders of Wildlife. • He was a field representative for the Fund for Animals and a representative for the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals in He co-founded Earthforce Environmental Society and Friends of the Wolf. • Watson's first affiliation with the Sierra Club and he has remained a Sierra Club supporter ever since. Removal from Greenpeace Board • The group felt his strong, "front and center" personality and frequently voiced opposition to Greenpeace's interpretation of "nonviolence" were too divisive. • During an interview with CBC Radio, Watson spoke out against Greenpeace and their role and motives for the anti-sealing campaigns. • Watson accused these organizations of campaigning against the Canadian seal hunt because it is an easy way to raise money and it is a profit maker for the organizations. • Greenpeace has called Watson a violent extremist and will no longer comment on his activities. Education and Public Presentations • Watson majored in communications and linguistics at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia. • He has lectured extensively at universities around the world, and was a professor of Ecology at Pasadena College of Design. • Currently, Watson is a registered speaker with the Jodi Solomon Speakers Bureau of Boston, • He regularly gives presentations at colleges and universities in the United States, and at special events throughout world.   14. Watson led the second Greenpeace campaign to oppose the seal hunt off the coast of Labrador, this time bringing international movie star Brigitte Bardot to the ice floes to focus international attention on the seal slaughter. By: Grace Kim
