Functions of the Organs • The endocrine system is instrumental in regulating mood, growth and development, tissue function, metabolism, and sexual function a • In general, the endocrine system is in charge of body processes that happen slowly, such as cell growth. Faster processes like breathing and body movement are controlled by the nervous system. But even though the nervous system and endocrine system are separate systems, they often work together to help the body function properly.

Vocabulary • Hypothalamus- Is the portion of the brain that connects the endocrine and the nervous system s. • Pituitary gland – Receives messages from other areas of the brain and from internal organs. • Target cells- When the hormone is distributed in blood and binds to distant target cells.

  6. Facts • There are six major glands that form the endocrine system in the human body. They are the hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, pineal and reproductive glands or gonads. Here, we are going to reveal a few important facts about the role of these glands in our body. • Controls the body • The endocrine system is made up of series of glands

  7. Pancreas is a double gland which is a part of both endocrine as well as exocrine glands. Insulin and glucagon are two of the vital hormones produced by endocrine pancreas gland. It regulates the blood sugar level in the body. If it does not produce enough insulin, then the sugar level in blood rises and lead to diabetes.The sex hormones are secreted into the human body by the reproductive glands or gonads. The testis present in the scrotum of males and the ovary located in the pelvis of female are the two such glands. In men, hormones like testosterone released by the testis regulates various changes associated with sexual development during puberty. While in women, the ovaries produce eggs and secretes hormones like estrogen and progesterone which are important for pregnancy and menstrual cycle.
