Eradicate extreme hunger and poverty • Strengthening emergency food assistance, increased funding for rural development, pursue trade policy reforms • Concerned about the price volatility on the poor • Four year $464 million global food security initiative • Lifting agricultural productivity • Improve rural livelihoods • Building community resilience • Asia ($182 million) • Pacific ($66 million) • Africa ($100 million)

Achieve universal primary education • Promote equality, improve quality, strengthen education system • 2011-12, Australia’s investment in education - $842 million • Major bilateral partners are Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Pacific Island Countries, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh • Improve functioning of national education system – enable more girls and boys to complete primary school • Improve quality of education

Promote gender equality and empower women • Improve female health and education • Support women to set up new businesses • Help more girls attend school in Bangladesh • Helping more women take on leadership roles in government, business, schools and within community • Help women to against gender violence • Improve the health and wellbeing of women and children • Women and children have better access to clean water

  5. Reduce child mortality • Target major causes of child and maternal mortality and morbidity • Strengthen national health systems • Help them access safe drinking, improve facilities • Help to develop better quality

Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases • The aid will spend around $759 million on health related programs • Deliver health services, improve won public health systems, help them to access safe drinking water, improve facilities • Support new technologies, strengthen health systems, improve service delivery • Tackle emerging malaria drug resistance in Burma • Working with the World Health Organisation to combat the thread of diseases • Assist partner countries to reduce the risks and impacts of emerging infectious diseases
