  1. Macaulay Snapshot 2013 Composite Photographic History By Ralph Schneider

  2. Statue Of Liberty Photo by Ashley Perry (2013) “Samuel I Newhouse” (2010)

  3. Comparison The picture on the left is taken in daylight The picture on the right is taken by sunset Both pictures feature the view of the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island Ferry, but from different perspectives They were taken three years apart but are both contemporary The Statue of Liberty has been available for view from the Ferry since 1875. The Ferry itself predates the statue (1817).

  4. Verrazano Bridge Photo by Joseph Ugoretz (Left) (2013) Photo by jcolen.com (Right) (2009-2012)

  5. Comparison • Both pictures feature the Verrazano Bridge • The left picture shows a different perspective of the bridge from the opposite side. • The right picture is shrouded in fog and looks dated due to the filter, but is actually recent. The bridge has been a part of New York since it opened in 1964.

  6. Barclays Center Photo by SabeenaRamnanan (2013) Photo by Nelson Bakermann (2012)

  7. Comparison • The photo on the left shows the Barclays Center as a functioning, booming concert venue with bright lights and excitement that it brings to the area of Downtown Brooklyn • The photo on the right shows the venue still in the early stages of its construction. The area is on the precipice of a major turnaround. That traffic is about to get a lot worse. It’s an Arial view. Things are looking up.

  8. Flatiron building Photo by atlantatimemachine.com (1896/1897) Photo by Dustin Moy (2013)

  9. comparison • These two photos show significant historical differences. The left picture shows the Flatiron Building as it is being constructed over a century ago. Only trees mainly fill in the shot • The picture on the right is current and it shows the district, now known as the Flatiron District, buzzing with traffic and populated with other buildings.

  10. Times square Photo by Rachel Naftali(2013) Photo by zedisred.blogspot.com (1905)

  11. comparison • These photos show the drastic commercialization of Times Square in NYC from an area with simply the NY Times Tower and surrounding buildings into an area of bright lights, advertisements, and video screens.
