  2. Virtuality / Reality • It seems quite obvious in this modern age that people are so obsessed with what could be real versus what is real. Virtuality can seen everywhere in modern culture from CGI created characters in Movies to a public bus travelling down a road disguised as a trolley from the 1920’s. In many ways it has grown to the point of disgust, due to there being some many objects now made to look real that people forget true reality. • This is occurring in architecture as well with such objects as faux wooden beams. What is the use of having a faux beam. No matter how much it may look real, it never will be, and will never have the actual feeling of a real one. Reality allows us to relate to our environment. It is not to say that we can not dream, but instead it is an attempt to bring our dreams alive through the use of real materials and people.

  5. Output / Input • In the name of obtaining materials items cheaply and quickly, our society has largely sacrificed quality. This is can be said for all items from a simple pair of shoes, to a home. In fact output has far surpassed input, which in the case input refers to ideas, knowledge, and the ingenuity it takes to create something. A great example of this concept are many of the suburban neighborhoods that have “popped” in the last few decades. These neighborhoods are built so cheaply, and quickly that the quality being put into them is simply sub par. They are filled with houses that look identical to one another, and are completely devoid of feeling of substance. Even worse is the fact that these homes were not built to stand the test of time, but were built instead for only a limited amount of time. • Other objects such as cars, microwaves, and furniture are built this way today as well. Nothing is sacred from having a cheaper version made of itself. Some where along the line in society it became ok to have something created that was lesser in quality. I would much rather pay more for something of quality than pay less for something, and have to buy it again later. I would therefore rather have a great deal less output and more input occurring in this world to ensure this does not happen any longer.
