  3. The Kind of Giving That Vision Responds To ~Our Finances~

  4. What is Vision? a sight (mentally), that is, a dream, revelation, or oracle.

  5. Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. - KJV • Pro 29:18 If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed. – The MSG

  6. The Background (1 Chronicles 17:1 – 12) 1Ch 28:1 David called together all the leaders of Israel--tribal administrators, heads of various governmental operations, military commanders and captains, stewards in charge of the property and livestock belonging to the king and his sons--everyone who held responsible positions in the kingdom.

  7. The Background 1Ch 28:2 King David stood tall and spoke: "Listen to me, my people: I fully intended to build a permanent structure for the Chest of the Covenant of GOD, God's footstool. But when I got ready to build it,

  8. The Background 1Ch 28:3 God said to me, 'You may not build a house to honor me--you've done too much fighting--killed too many people.'

  9. The Question Can you find it within yourself to support the Vision of this house with more than words?

  10. Into the text: 1Ch 29:1 Then David the king addressed the congregation: "My son Solomon was singled out and chosen by God to do this. But he's young and untested and the work is huge--this is not just a place for people to meet each other, but a house for GOD to meet us.

  11. Here is a thought: It is time to see this place filled with others who should come to meet God.

  12. Here is another thought: Many a people struggle with coming because they are not ready to meet God.

  13. Principle #1: The task of connecting people to God is not to be assigned to a few, but to the many.

  14. 1Ch 29:2I've done my best to get everything together for building this house for my God, all the materials necessary: gold, silver, bronze, iron, lumber, precious and varicolored stones, and building stones--vast stockpiles.

  15. Here is a thought: David’s personal best is connected to a personal God.

  16. Principle #2: You will never give your best outwardly, if you have never given your best inwardly.

  17. 1Ch 29:3 Furthermore, because my heart is in this, in addition to and beyond what I have gathered, I'm turning over my personal fortune of gold and silver for making this place of worship for my God:

  18. Mat 6:21 Your heart will always be where your treasure is.

  19. Here is a question: What will it cost us to make this a safe place for our God, our people, and our vision?

  20. Principle #3: You can never inspire others to do what your own heart is not invested in.

  21. 1Ch 29:3 Furthermore, because my heart is in this, in addition to and beyond what I have gathered, I'm turning over my personal fortune of gold and silver for making this place of worship for my God:

  22. Check this out: 2Sa 24:21 Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" "To buy your threshing floor," David answered, "so I can build an altar to the LORD, that the plague on the people may be stopped."

  23. 2Sa 24:22 Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take whatever pleases him and offer it up. Here are oxen for the burnt offering, and here are threshing sledges and ox yokes for the wood.

  24. 2Sa 24:24 But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing."

  25. Here is a thought: Never take something to offer to God that did not cost you anything.

  26. Principle #4: The more your heart is into a thing, the bigger the sacrifice you are willing to make.

  27. 1Ch 29:4-5 3,000 talents (about 113 tons) of gold--all from Ophir, the best--and 7,000 talents (214 tons) of silver for covering the walls of the buildings, and for the gold and silver work by craftsmen and artisans. "And now, how about you? Who among you is ready and willing to join in the giving?"

  28. Here is a thought: Giving in the church community is always about equal sacrifice not equal giving.

  29. Principle #5: Financing vision always includes the twins - readiness and willingness.

  30. 1Ch 29:6 Ready and willing, the heads of families, leaders of the tribes of Israel, commanders and captains in the army, stewards of the king's affairs, stepped forward and gave willingly.

  31. Here is a thought: The strength of their giving was not the amount they gave, but the unity of their leadership!

  32. Principle #6: The giving of the leaders always set the tone for the giving of the followers. Some giving should be a public testimony not a private truth.

  33. 1Ch 29:7They gave 5,000 talents (188 tons) and 10,000 darics (185 pounds) of gold, 10,000 talents of silver (377 tons), 18,000 talents of bronze (679 tons), and 100,000 talents (3,775 tons) of iron.

  34. Here is a thought: The weight of their willingness was matched by the weight of their giving.

  35. 1Ch 29:9 And the people were full of a sense of celebration--all that giving! And all given willingly, freely! King David was exuberant.

  36. 1Ch 29:9 David and the people were very happy that so much had been given to the LORD, and they all celebrated.

  37. Principle #7: Giving should always be God inspired and God celebrated.

  38. 1Ch 29:14 But why should we be happy that we have given you these gifts? They belong to you, and we have only given back what is already yours.

  39. Hhhhhhuuuuummmmm!!!!! We are giving back to God what is already His.

  40. 1Ch 29:16 GOD, our God, all these materials--these piles of stuff for building a house of worship for you, honoring your Holy Name--it all came from you! It was all yours in the first place!

  41. 1Ch 29:17 I know that you test everyone's heart and are pleased with people of integrity. In honesty and sincerity I have willingly given all this to you, and I have seen how your people who are gathered here have been happy to bring offerings to you.

  42. Principle #8: Nothing satisfies vision more than a love for God and a love for His people.
