  1. 2020 Missionary Support Goals

  2. Developing Support Relationships From the beginning, missionaries from CRC congregations have developed support relationships. • In the 1920’s Johanna Veenstrawrote letters and articles to congregations back home. • In the 1950’s one church covered the entire cost of the Rubinghs serving in Nigeria.

  3. Ministry Shares Still Provide a Significant Base for Missionaries • Many missionaries with other agencies have to raise 115% of their actual costs. • Ministry Shares provide leadership, fundraising and support, including continuing education, travel, and some housing costs. • Ministry Shares also cover unique costs for families with children and those just beginning missionary service.

  4. Ministry Shares Never Covered the Full CRWM Budget • In 1961 Ministry Shares covered 2/3 of CRWM’s budget. • Today, Ministry Shares only cover 1/3 of CRWM’s budget. 100% 80% 60% 40% 20% 0%

  5. Our Goal is to Share Christ’s Love with the Entire World • CRWM engages churches in global mission for a needy world. • 5 billionpeople do not follow Jesus. • 1.5 billionpeople have never heard the Gospel.

  6. Funding Models Are Changing • Missionaries’ goals have moved from a worldwide average to individualized budgets for each missionary. • Missionaries’ goal amounts are rising.

  7. Why Are These Changes Happening?

  8. Church and Donor Priorities Are Changing • Churches and donors want a deeper relationship with their missionaries. • Giving is shifting from general donations to missionary-specific gifts.

  9. Ministry Shares Buy Less and Less • Percent of requested Ministry Shares sent in by churches: 1990 – 78% 2013 – 62% • Inflation reduced Ministry Shares purchasing power by about 50% since 1990.

  10. There is Still a Lot of Work to be Done • The Great Commission continues to drive us. • Reducing the number of career missionaries reduces our capacity to do ministry. • No method of mission funding is more important than the mission itself.

  11. What Are the Results? • More missionaries are being appointed than before: Eight new career or associate positions this year. • Most missionaries are on track with meeting their goals.
