IB ITGS - Aims • Develop an understanding of (new) technology • Study human experience and behaviour with IT • Analyse and argue theories about the use of IT • Develop an awareness of human attitudes and beliefs towards IT • Understand social and ethical considerations in the use of IT at local and global levels

IB ITGS – Course content • Section 1 – Social and Ethical Issues • Reliability, Integrity, Security, Privacy and anonymity, Authenticity, Intellectual property, Equality of access, Control, Globalization and cultural diversity, Policies and standards, People and machines • Section 2 – IT Systems in a Social Context • Basics of hardware and networks, Applications, Communication systems, Integrated systems • Section 3 – Areas of Impact • Business and employment, Education, Health, Arts entertainment and leisure, Science and the environment, Politics and government

IB ITGS – Internal assessment • Standard Level (SL) • Project (30% final grade) • IB ITGS SL project is based on an identified IT need. • Report (2,000 – 2,500 words) • Log book – a journal (diary) of your work and progress • Higher Level (HL) • Portfolio of 3 essays (800 – 1000 words) • Portfolio extension based on 1 essay + interview(800 – 1000 words) • Portfolio + extension (20% final grade)

  7. IB ITGS – External assessment • Standard Level (SL) • Paper 1 – 1 hour (25% final grade) • Paper 2 – 2 hours (45% final grade) • Higher Level (HL) • Paper 1 – 1 hour (20% final grade) • Paper 2 – 2 hours (35% final grade) • Paper 3 – 1 hour (20% final grade)

  8. IB ITGS - HL • Higher Level (HL) ITGS Paper 3 includes a compulsory case study. • Case study is provided at the beginning of the 2nd year (H4 year). Students study the content, develop questions and ideas over the final year. • Paper 3 (IB ITGS HL) is based on the studied case study.
