  1. Rock Springs Elementary Positive Behavior Interventions Support

  2. What is PBIS? • Positive Behavior Intervention Support is about teaching students the correct way to act and interact with others in a positive manner. • PBIS does not replace discipline or consequences in the classroom. • PBIS is a school-wide initiative that will reward students for doing “the right thing”.

  3. Core Principles of PBIS • We can effectively teach appropriate behavior to all children. • We intervene early.  • We use of a multi-tier model of service delivery. • We use research-based, scientifically validated interventions. • We monitor student progress to inform interventions.  • We use data to make decisions.

  4. Three Tiers of PBIS

  5. School-Wide Matrix • Rock Springs has implemented a matrix to help teach students how to exhibit appropriate behavior in all areas of our school. • Click on the Matrix link in the PBIS folder to view our Matrix.

  6. Video • The video in the PBIS folder was created for instructional purposes only. • Teachers were able to show the video to the students and have a lesson on how to exhibit appropriate behaviors in all areas of our school.

  7. School-wide Incentive • Classroom rewards • Teachers will be on the lookout for classrooms that are following our 4 school rules. Responsibility, Safety, Effort, and Show Respect. When caught doing the right thing, they will earn a ticket. • For every 10 tickets earned, the classroom teacher will display a sailboat outside their door. • When 10 sailboats are earned and displayed, the classroom teacher will display an anchor. • When an anchor is earned, the classroom teacher will decide on an incentive to give their classroom. The administration will also be notified so they can announce who earned an anchor on morning announcements. • Once an anchor is earned the process begins again.

  8. School-wide Incentive • Special area • Each special teacher (art, music, PE, and media) will give a score for each classrooms behavior. • If a classroom earns a 3 they will receive 1 ticket. If a 4 is earned they will receive 2 tickets. • Bus awards • Bus drivers will choose two students per month that have demonstrated appropriate bus behavior. • The students will receive a certificate, choose a prize from the office, and have their picture taken and displayed by the bus doors.

  9. Keep up the good work and remember… • be Responsible • be Safe • give your best Effort • and Show respect
