  1. Chemical energy: Is stored energy in sugar molecules  • Respiration: is a chemical reaction in PLANTS and animals which allows them to grow, move and stay warm. C6H12O6 (sugar) and O2 are the reactants. CO2 and H2O are the products.

  2. Independent variable- is the variable you have control over, what you can choose and manipulate. • Chemical Properties - the way an element or compound behaves in chemical reactions: Flammable, dissolve in water, soft, rusts, melt at room temperature, conducts electricity

  3. Physical Properties- are used to identify, describe and classify matter, such as: Hardness, Texture, color, Odor, Taste, and Temperature  • Chemical Reaction - a chemical change in which a substance is changed into a new substance

  4. Physical change-  are reversible changes and no new substances is formed  • ¨Respiration = a process in which stored energy is released from food molecules. • Photosynthesis: how plants turn sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into food and oxygen

  5. ¨Atom- the smallest component of an element having the chemical properties of the element • Molecules: When to two or more atoms have chemically combined to form a single substance.

  6. Reactants: a substance that undergoes a change in a chemical reaction • Products: A substance that is produced in a chemical reaction.

  7. •Hypothesis- A proposed solution to a scientific problem  Inference-To make a mental judgment based on observations. Inferences cannot be directly observed. They require thought.  Theory- a proposed explanation whose status is still  not  100% known

  8. ¨Variable- anything that can change or be changed in an experiment • ¨Control- may be a “no treatment" or an “experimenter selected” group.
