Definition • PCT-EDI - the PCT Electronic Data Interchange Service providing a simple and secure document exchange mechanism using SFTP, over the Internet or over TRINET • EDI COR - the COR service using EDI delivery • IB FORMS – network delivery • SFTP - Secure Shell File Transfer Protocol PCT - IS

PCT-EDI requirements • Provide the facility to exchange documents electronically • Enable the opportunity for usage of the COR system without human intervention outside of the Receiving Office (system) • Provide a service with low start-up costs • Support the following content types • COR orders and documents, RO WASPs, PDocs, fee data, other documents, scanned record copies + IB forms PCT - IS

Implementation steps • Contact us to agree a plan • Read and follow the user-guide and ‘Minimum specification’ documents at http://www.wipo.int/pct/edi/en/documents/ • Make implementation choices • User Application (e.g. WINscp, Putty, Tectia, SSH…) or development tools (Perl, Java…) • Implement procedures, test and move to production PCT - IS

  6. PCT–EDI usage • 16 offices have PCT-EDI connections • 8 offices send e-filings via PCT-EDI (Internet), 4 offices via PCT-EDI (CD) • 3 offices sending scanned record copies • > 45% of pages arriving at IB via PCT-EDI • Outgoing documents growing (IB forms) PCT - IS

PCT-EDI highlights • February 2006 - documents totaling 270,000 (45%) pages were received by PCT EDI • April 2006 - International Bureau forms start being delivered by PCT-EDI (China and Finland started in April) • May 2006 – scanned record copies start arriving from EPO • Many more office related activities PCT - IS

  8. PCT-EDI next steps • USPTO Priority documents to transition from CD to EDI over TRINET • Additional operational quality assurance procedures being initiated • TDA implementation at WIPO PCT - IS
