  13. DEEP DRAFT ARCTIC PORT STUDY Statewide Port Conference conducted in 2008 and 2010. Presented and prioritized comprehensive tabulation of marine infrastructure needs by region. Reviewed potential quarry sites. Analyzed relationship between hub communities and surrounding communities. Alaska Congressional Delegation and State requested focus on the Deep Draft Arctic Port Study. “Arctic Coast” defined as north of Bethel to Canadian border. Using multi-criteria decision making software, State and Corps evaluated 14 sites that could benefit from enhanced marine infrastructure. Report released to public in March 2013 recommending in-depth analysis of Nome/Port Clarence area. Planning charrette conducted in April 2013. NEPA public scoping meetings conducted in June 2013 Expect to publish draft feasibility study for Nome/Port Clarence region in Fall 2014. Study Area Map

ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM Base Camp at Tanaga Island Formerly Used Defense Sites Program: performs environmental restoration of sites contaminated with hazardous, toxic or radioactive waste and/or ordnance from past military activities. Native American Lands Environmental: Mitigation Program: administers cooperative agreements with tribes to mitigate military impacts on tribal lands. Tribes execute work with tribal resources and federal funding. Army and Air Force Environmental Program: provides technical assistance to identify, investigate and clean up hazardous substances, pollutants and contaminants on active installations. Interagency Environmental Program: engages in environmental remediation and compliance activities on behalf of non-DoD federal agencies.   21. CONCLUSION Overall program is changing and getting smaller. Programs have become more volatile. Leveraging expertise and capabilities to pursue new opportunities under the Interagency and International Services Program. Re-shaping the Alaska District into an adaptable, flexible organization able to execute a changing workload in an efficient and effective manner.
