  2. Parent Survey Info The Parent Survey is designed to elicit information regarding parents’ perceptions of the school district and their role as a parent. The information obtained will be analyzed to assess the current needs and to develop an action plan to improve the educational system in the Urbana School District. Group Project: Urbana Public Schools Survey

SECTION I • Number of Questions= 6 • (Questions 1-6) DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION(Total Number of Participants= 313) • The participants of the survey are parents/legal guardians (n= 313) from eight schools (5 elementary; 1 middle school; 1 high school; and 1 other or combined schools) in the District. The majority of the survey participants are Females (82.9%) and the Mothers consist of 82% of total participants followed by Fathers (11%) andLegal Guardians (7%).   4. DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION (Cont.)(Total Number of Participants= 313) 32% of the survey participantshave been living in the District more than 15 years. The majority (71.2%) of the survey participants are African-Americans and Hispanic-Americans consist of 15.7% of total participants. Group Project: Urbana Public Schools Survey

  5. DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION (Cont.)(Total Number of Participants= 313) The majority of the survey participants (74.7%) have two or more children in the schools. Group Project: Urbana Public Schools Survey 17% of the survey participants have children who have graduated from the District schools.

SURVEY QUESTIONS(Total Number of Participants= 313) • SECTION II • Number of Questions= 92 • (Questions 7-98) This section asks participants to answer a series of questions regarding the District schools and classes, using a rating scale. A total number of 92 questions covers about fourteen areas of priority. Group Project: Urbana Public Schools Survey

  14. Summary of Findings • A number of issues that were important to parents were identified afteranalyzing the frequency of individual questions. The mean average of Parent Survey responses for each question was found and rank ordered from high to low priority. • Based on the survey responses, Parental/Family Support (mean=1.08), Student Creativity (mean= 1.10), andStudent Performance (mean= 1.11) were the top areas that received high positive responses from the participants [min.=1, max.= 2]. • Questions 46, 51, and 53 were the top three questions that participants most positively responded. These three questions fall under the area of Student Performance and Support [min.=1, max.=5]. Additionally, Top 4, 5, 7, 9, and 10 Survey Responses were related to Support (Q52, Q95, Q33, Q93, and Q32). • Based on the survey responses, Staff Development (mean=1.65), School Communications (mean=1.56), and Computers and Technology (mean=1.55) were the areas that received least positive responses from the participants [min.=1, max.= 2]. • Questions 98, 79, and 12 were the three questions that participants least positively responded. These three questions fall under the area of Student Performance and Curriculum [min.=1, max.=5]. Group Project: Urbana Public Schools Survey
