Objectives • Identify and describe the forces acting on an object using a force diagram. • Describe weight in terms of the force of a planet’s or moon’s gravity acting on a given mass. • Recognize that inertia is a property of matter that can be described as an object’s tendency to resist a change in motion, and is dependent upon the object’s mass. • Determine the effect of the sum of the forces acting on an object. • Using information about net force and mass determine the effect on acceleration. • Analyze force pairs when given a scenario and describe their magnitudes and directions. • Predict the path of an object when the net force changes.

  8. Principle of Inertia Objects with more mass have more inertia • Newton’s 1st law of motion is sometimes called the law of inertia. • Inertia is the tendency of matter to resist a change in motion. • Mass is a measure of the amount of inertia of an object.
