Introduction – About KHH • Partnerships in Care (PiC) is one of the largest independent providers of secure and step down care, with 23 hospitals across the UK • Kneesworth House Hospital is a 153 bedded unit within PiC; providing medium secure, low secure and both locked and open rehabilitation opportunities • Kneesworth House Hospital provides both male and female Mental Illness and Personality Disorder • services, and male Learning • Disability services Right: Service user’s photograph of Southview, KHH

Patient led Audit - Background • KHH employs a designated Clinical Audit Officer, who is responsible for the facilitation of all clinical internal audit at the hospital • Audit process is essential in quality assurance of service provision and care • Over the past year there has been increasing patient involvement in this process • Patient driven topics • Patient Council involvement • Focus groups • Presentation of action plans within Clinical Governance • In Quarter 3 2013, there was a requirement within the PiC Clinical Audit agenda for a ‘Patient Led Audit’ • At KHH, this was considered a key opportunity for service users to be able to identify and audit areas of service most important to them

Where next for Patient Led Audit in 2014? • We will be completing the audit cycle and embedding our existing action plan within hospital practice • Service user involvement will continue to be an integral part of the internal audit process at KHH, and we will be promoting opportunities for service user involvement in quality assurance and Clinical Governance matters • Such involvement not only provides service users with the opportunity to identify the areas of service most important to them, but further generates interest and understanding amongst patients that good audit really can facilitate positive change • And, of course, we look forward to starting our next Patient Led Audit!
