  2. The FEPP Program • Low-Cost Fire Protection for Rural American • FEPP is Federal equipment on loan for use in rural and wildland fire protection programs

  3. Authority for FEPP Program • Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949 • Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act • Items “LOANED” through this program may be used for: fire protection purposes only

  4. What Equipment is Available? • Equipment deemed excess from military installations trucks trailers generators fire fighting hose breathing apparatus personal protective equipment Aircraft and…….USFS Fire Engines

  5. Rolling Stock for Fire Fighting • Currently nearly 26,000 pieces of rolling stock in the FEPP Program • Worth a total of over $44 million • Inventory includes vehicles, aircraft, trailers, and other dedicated firefighting equipment.

  6. Why Does the Forest Service Administer This Program? • Forest Service expends approximately $2.4 million per year on the FEPP Program • The benefits to State and local firefighting communities far outweigh the cost of administering the program

  7. What Does It Cost? • Nothing but the cost of transportation

  8. Who May Participate? • All State Foresters • Any Qualifying Fire Departments • This Includes the Territories, Former Territories (Freely Associated States).

  9. The Fine Print • One Requirement: Receiving Unit “is responsible for providing fire protection on wildland within the department’s coverage area”.

  10. AND….. • Any conversion will be done in a safe and timely manner • Equipment will be protected from theft, vandalism and weather damage • Vehicles will be painted in fire service colors • Liability insurance will be maintained • All FEPP will be returned to the State Forester for disposal
