As a Foundation Doctor you will have to show that you are working to achieve the competencies outlined in the Foundation Curriculum Much of this you will achieve during your day-to-day work and at the teaching sessions organised at your place of work You therefore need a portfolio in which to log all your educational activities and to show how you have worked with the curriculum

  3. Horus is your e-portfolio! So you are asked to keep a portfolio of evidence

  4. One for your “favourites” portfolio.nwpgmd.nhs.uk/horus

  5. We also have a facility for you to undertake Mini-CEX, CbD and DOPS on a touch screen phone

  6. When you first log-in you won’t have a password and so just click on the “unable to sign in” link here.

  7. Once you’ve entered your email address then you’ll be able to set your password.

  8. Enter your details and click “sign-in”

  9. This is your home page!

  15. The key bit for you is the portfolio section. “Click” Anyway… back to the home page.

  16. This is your portfolio overview page When you first log on you will need to complete sections on Probity Health and Data Protection and electronically agree an educational contract. There is also a careers bit!

  17. We want you to work towards completing the Foundation Curriculum So it has its own section

  18. There are 13 main bits to the curriculum

  19. With 2 extra sections if you are on an academic track or are just keen!

  20. Each main heading has a series of sub-headings with it

  21. Use the 3 buttons across the top to show the things highlighted.

  22. This button shows you which items from your portfolio you’ve mapped as evidence to the section. More on evidence mapping later.

  23. View the detailed outcomes and competences by clicking on this button

  24. Clicking on the e-learning button will show relevant modules provided by e-Learning for Health These modules are not compulsory but are highly recommended adjuncts to your work place based learning

  25. Click on an e-learning module title for instructions on how to complete it. There is a link to view an overview of everything offered by e-Learning for Health here

  26. This is the e-Learning for Health overview page. Access this from a link on your curriculum page.

  28. The additional links, include several links to the UK FPO website. www.foundationprogramme.nhs.uk Including the FP Curriculum 2012 Resource, to assist foundation doctors in improving their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.

  29. The next big section for you is the “Forms”

  30. This screen lets you create all the forms you need for assessment and appraisal

  31. Mandatory forms are listed in the first main sections You can also see who should be involved in the form, how many need to be done and a link to a full help page.

  32. Towards the end of the page you’ll find other important forms to help you document that you are working “with” the curriculum.

  33. Most forms will have a help page something like this. You can jump to other help pages using the menu in the top right corner

  34. So let’s record a meeting with your supervisor. Click the form title.

  35. Enter the name of your supervisor

  36. Check the date Leave this as “default” unless the date falls outside of the placement it belongs to. Then click here

  37. Then click here Basic guidance about who can access content you create and use of patient information

  38. Complete the report with your supervisor Then save it.

  41. There is a new question which asks the supervisor who will constitute your Placement Supervision Group. A description of what the Placement Supervision Group is can be found by clicking on the link here.

  42. Here is an explanation of the Placement Supervision Group This may be a new concept to your clinical supervisor so find out as much about it yourself before your meeting!!!

  43. How about doing some Supervised Learning Events. These replace several of the Work place based assessments from previous years. You start them via Horus in a very similar way to the meetings we’ve already done.

  45. Enter the trainer, date and placement (leave default in most cases)

  46. It is really important to ask your assessor to complete the boxes opposite as these are most likely to help you progress.. And will look good at review Use the blue banners to map the SLE to the curriculum. Mapping is optional in most cases, but is a required part of SLE’s.

  47. When you start mapping to the curriculum, a new box pops up, click on any heading to expand it.

  48. In this case I have mapped this SLE to 2.2 and 2.3, this means it will now appear on the curriculum (but only after it has been validated by the trainer).
