Purpose • To provide an accountability overview • State and Federal • To provide an overview of the additional features used to raise campus and district rating one level. • To provide an overview of upcoming changes to the TAKS test. • To provide an overview on how Jane Hambric is doing compared to other campuses.

Accountability • State mandated testing • Every student in grades 3-11 will take some form of TAKS test. • 27,001 students in Socorro ISD were assessed in 2009 during the primary administration. • Campuses are not only responsible for performance on the assessments but also participation rate, attendance rate, dropout rate, completion rate, and graduation rate

  9. Additional Features • Required Improvement • Texas Projection Measure • Exception Provision

  10. What is Required Improvement? • Formula used to determine if the campus has shown enough improvement to be able to meet the current year accountability standard in two years.

  11. What’s NewTexas Projection Measure (TPM) • Students that are predicted to pass the next high stakes grade level test, however fail the current years test are included as passers for the purpose of determining a campus’ rating. • You will see a new indicator on the state accountability data table that is called “Percent met Standard with TPM.”

  12. What’s NewTexas Projection Measure (TPM) Texas Projection Measure Based on variables that “predict” a student’s performance at the next “high stakes” grade level * In 2009, TPM was not available for 8th grade Science

  16. What is Exception Provision? • To provide relief to large campuses and districts with more diverse student populations who are evaluated on more measures. • RI >>> TPM >>> Exception Provision • May be applied to any of the TAKS Measures. • No more than 5 points below the standard.

  17. What is Exception Provision? • Moving from Unacceptable to Acceptable = 4 possible exceptions • Moving from Acceptable to Recognized = 4 possible exceptions • Moving from Recognized to Exemplary = 1 possible exception

  18. 2009-2010 Testing Updates Vertical Scale • Vertical Scale will take the place of the Scale Score in 2009-2010 • Grades 3-8 • Math and Reading • Instead of a 2100, a student will have a score between a 1 and 1000. The passing score is different for each grade and subject • More rigorous, students will need to get more items correct to meet the standard. • Vertical Scale conversions for 2009 are located on the Raw Score Conversion charts

Vertical Scale 2009-2010 Testing Updates Vertical Scale • More rigor • Reading • Grades 6 and 8 - students will need 3 more questions correct in order to meet the standard. • Math • Grades 3 and 4 in Spanish will need 2 to 3 questions correct in order to meet the standard. • Commended Performance – • Students will need one more item correct to reach commended performance

  21. What’s New for State Accountability in 2009-2010? • All TAKS (Accommodated) Assessments will be used in State Accountability. • See page 5 of the AEIS campus report for “2010 Preview” will be released in November on the TEA website

  22. Testing Update • 6th grade TAKS will no longer be available in Spanish. • 3rd grade is no longer part of SSI. • Students will take the primary administration in late April
