  1. Math CC7/8 – Nov. 8 Math Notebook: • Topic: Mixing It Up 2. HW: #26-30 & #46-49 Things Needed Today (TNT) • Pencil/Math Notebook/Calculator

  2. What’s Happening? • HW Questions • Quick Warm Up • C&S 3.3! • Begin HW?

  3. Warm Up d) • = a) 76 + (11 • 3) = WARM-UP: Write down each problem and solve. Show your thinking! e) ÷ = b) 120 ÷ (20 • 3) = c) 3 + 2 + 1 = f) $27.39 ÷ 11

  4. Warm Up Answer Key d) • = a) 76 + (11 • 3) = 109 WARM-UP: Write down each problem and solve. Show your thinking! e) ÷ = b) 120 ÷ (20 • 3) = 2 c) 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 = f) $27.39 ÷ 11= $2.49

  5. Pg. 68 You have learned to scale ratios and rates, make percent and rate tables, solve proportions, write equations, and use unit rates. These strategies are related. You can often solve ratio and rate problems in more than one way.

  6. Question How can you use scale factors, rate tables, proportions, equations, or graphs to find amount of a mixture, given the proportions?

  7. Ming works at the zoo. She mixes food for the baby chimpanzees. Ming mixes up large batches of baby chimp food from sacks of high-fiber food and sacks of high-protein food. She uses the mix information above. (Check out your labsheet)

  8. Copy & Complete the table to find unit rates for the baby chimp mix. Write 2 equations relating the number of scoops of high-fiber food F and the number of scoops of high-protein food P. P =F F = P

  9. Ming uses 48 scoops of high-protein food in one batch. How many scoops of high-fiber food does she use? Explain your reasoning. F = 32 scoops 48 : F 60 : 40 F = (48) Or make a rate table! Ming mixes a batch of baby chimp food with a total of 125 scoops. How many scoops of high-fiber food does she use? Explain 125 : F 100 : 40 F = 50 scoops Total scoops is 2.5 times the scoops of fiber. 125 = 2.5F

  10. Some new chimps arrive at the zoo. Ming had already mixed 20 scoops of high-fiber food and 30 scoops of high-protein food. She finds out that the new chimps are adults. Adult chimps need food that has more fiber. Ming needs to add more high-fiber food to the mix she already has. She uses the information on the handout(chimp food recipe) to adjust the mix. How many more scoops of high-fiber food should she add? Explain. F : 30 = 60 : 40 60 40 F 30 = 4F: 120 = 180 : 120 180 120 4F 120 = This means there needs to be 45 scoops of fiber in the mix. She already put in 20 scoops, so she needs to add 25 more!

  11. Ming’s original mix contained 20 scoops of high-fiber food. By what percentage (%) did the amount of high fiber food increase when Ming added more high-fiber food to the mix? The number of scoops increased by 25 scoops. The original number of scoops was 20. You need to find what percent 25 is of 20. (100% of 20 is 20… 5 is what % of 20?) High-fiber food increased by 125%!

  12. Ming graphs the equation P = F to show the relationship between the amounts of high-protein food for adult chimps. 1. How do you know the graph matches this equation? 1.Make a rate table for adult chimp mix and match the pairs to the graph. Ans. vary 2. Ming needs the to find the # of scoops of high fiber food in a mix that has 30 cups of high-protein food. This is the point (F,P) on the graph at which P=30. The pt. is (45,30). 2) Explain how Ming can use the graph to answer question #1?

  13. Ming wants to use a unit rate to find how many more scoops of high-fiber food was to add to the adult mix. She writes a proportion. = Ming says that is equal to the unit rate 1.5. Is she correct? Explain. Yes, she is correct. Dividing 60% by 40% results in 1.5. In other words there are 1.5 scoops of high-fiber per 1 scoop of high-protein food.

  14. Ming r with the unit rate 1.5. Solve = 1.5 x = 45 What would be Ming’s first step in solving = ? She might divide 6.82 by 2.2 to find the unit rate (3.1). Ming would be left with = 3.1 Solve the proportion = . Describe the method you used. 13.144
