The Impact of Romanticism and Nationalism on 19th Century Europe

Explore how Romanticism emerged as a response to the societal changes of the 1800s in Europe, driven by the Industrial Revolution and the failings of Enlightenment ideals. This period witnessed a profound sense of alienation due to pollution and dehumanization, igniting a yearning for emotional connection, nature, and the sublime. Delve into how Romantic artists and writers reacted against industrialization and sought to glorify individualism and the exotic. Additionally, examine the rise of nationalism that fueled revolutions, emphasizing shared culture and history as a means of expressing pride and igniting change.
