  1. “Dead Sea Works” Customer Story Oded Pluda Alvarion, 2007

  2. Agenda • About the customer • The Challenge • Applications • The Alvarion solution • Business benefit • Looking ahead

  3. 1 About the customer

  4. “Dead Sea Works” • Owned by Israel Chemicals Ltd. • World fourth largest producer of potash products: 11% of world potash production. • Main mining area and process plant located in the south of the dead see, Israel.

  5. 2 The Challenge

  6. “Dead Sea works” challenges • Improve security • Provide video connectivity to remote pump houses and control rooms. • Support the manufacturing process • Provide data connectivity to off-shore dredges • To build a data network that can operate and survive extreme conditions of altitude and heat.

  7. 3 Applications

  8. The production process • Mineral “harvested” from solar evaporation pan. • “Dredges” (a large vassal that slowly moves over the pans surface) "harvests" the solution. • On the “Dredge” there is lot of industrial manufacturing equipment to control the operation of the raft.

  9. Remote operations • “Dead sea works” permit area is over 4000 km² • Pump houses and Generator rooms located a few miles from plant facility. • Remote locations operation does not require presents.

  10. 4 The Alvarion Solution

  11. Products - BreezeNET DS.11 and PRO.11 High survivability MTBF over 11 years; over 99.99% availability -40°c to + 60°c temperature range Robustness & redundancy IP-67 rating (NEMA 4X equivalent) AU & SU redundancy Range & coverage Maximum cell radius up to 32 miles

  12. Deployment BreezeNET DS.11 Point-to-point links were set up between the main plant building, where the network backbone resides, and the remote pumping stations and offices located on the shore of the evaporation pans. At each remote office, a BreezeNET PRO11 access point was installed, serving up to 3 dredges, at point-to-multipoint.

  13. Supporting the production process • Dredges are equipped with PRO.11 CPEs • DS.11 base stations situated along the banks of every pond • Extraction and processing information transmitted from the dredges back to HQ.

  14. Supporting remote locations • Remote location equipped with PRO.11 CPEs and Close circuit cameras. • CCTV monitor activities and movements and send a constant stream of images back over the DS.11 network to the main office for monitoring

  15. 5 Business Benefit

  16. Benefits points • A reliable and remote data network for remote operation • streamline manufacturing processes and increased production levels • Improved security and protection of expensive equipment on remote pump stations and control rooms.

  17. Benefit as perceived by customer • "The Alvarion Wireless network is essential for the daily operations of the DSW. The increase in uptime and the improved productivity could not have been made without the use of wireless broadband network. Previously, any production equipment malfunction aboard the rafts would require time to drive to the site and repair. Now, remote monitoring fixes these issues. Uptime is increased and so has overall productivity. Alvarion products have proved to be reliable and robust, and have exceeded our expectations” • Adi Babayof, Industrial communication & Instrumentation Engineering department manager, Dead Sea works

  18. 6 Looking Ahead

  19. Future trends • Technology requires more bandwidth • enabling new and enhanced manufacturing capabilities • “Un-manned Dredge” trial • Look into upgrade to BreezeNET B series, improving • performance • latency • Throughput • Security
