NTPC Operations Update: Gas Unit Synchronization and Scheduling Clarifications

Between 12:00 and 15:00 hours, several gas units were operational at NTPC stations. The Dadri plant had three units generating 604 MW, while Auraiya operated three units at 475 MW and Anta with two units at 272 MW. Due to increasing grid demand, NTPC was advised to synchronize an additional gas turbine at Dadri and Auraiya, which they agreed to. However, questions arose regarding communication with NRLDC regarding scheduling post 15:10 hours, leading to concerns about MW values displayed on 3ng1902 and the acceptance of these schedules by NTPC. Clarification on discrepancies in scheduling timelines was requested.

  1. STATUS BETWEEN 12:00 & 15:00 HRS • Following units were operational at Gas stations • Dadri(gas) 3 units (604 MW) • Auraiya(gas) 3 units (475 MW) • Anta(gas) 2 units (272 MW) • In view of increasing demand in the grid NTPC was advised to synchronize the fourth GT at Dadri(gas) and Auraiya(gas). NTPC had given its consent for the same. • NTPC was advised that “ All running machines at all stations (on gas as well as on liquid) are to be run at maximum generation”. Frequency signal was also encouraging the above action.

  2. NTPC states that “ Upto 15:10 hrs schedules were as per telephonic/ fax messages and at 15:10 hrs when 3ng1902.txt started flashing, it was evident that schedules as per online display shall be valid.” Was there any communication between NRLDC and NCR that after 15:10 hrs the schedules are to be followed as per website?

  3. SINCE THERE WAS NO COMMUNICATION Is NTPC ready to accept the MW values displayed on the website in 3ng1902, for other stations • DADRI(Th) • UNCHAHAR-1 • UNCHAHAR-2

  4. MW VALUES AS CONTAINED IN 3ng1902.txt

  5. If 3ng1902 was being followed then as per 3ng1902 and subsequent revisions, in case of Dadri(Gas) and Auraiya(Gas) for sustained long periods, the MW values appearing in schedule column were equivalent to 37% and 41% of D.C. respectively, - How did NTPC accept such schedules without any protest ?

  6. In case of any discrepancy in the Implemented schedule the discrepancies are pointed out immediately. However in this particular case How does NTPC explain the gap of around three weeks in pointing out the same?

  7. Outage and Synchronizing time
