Welcome! • Purpose of this evening • Whanau Newsletter • Agenda: • Importance of the communication between parents teacher and Child (triangle) • Class page • Attendance procedures and arriving at school on time • Communication Channels • Personal possessions, Uniform, Hats • Trips / Camps • Behaviour Plan C & F words • Swimming Lessons • Homework • Learning Journeys/ Student led conferences / Reports • Stationery Packs

Introductions • Becky Ireland (Background, qualifications, interests, role within the school, teaching philosophy) • Classroom environment: “Home Away from Home” - The students’ well being is paramount. Children feeling safe, a sense of belonging, secure yet motivated, inspired, and hooked into learning, clear expectations and boundaries. Learning personalised to each child’s levels and needs. Every child valued.

  4. Room 16 timetable – swimming is messy!

  5. Term focus • “Healthy Choices” – Respect for ourselves, for others, for our community, and for the environment.

  6. Attendance/lateness • Please phone the office if your child is going to be absent • If your child is late, please get them to sign into the office before coming to class

  7. Communication channels • I have an open door policy – please don’t hesitate to email me at bireland@stanmore.school.nz • Any issues please contact classroom teacher, and if need be it can then be taken higher to the AP’s, DP’s, then the principal

  8. Personal posessions/ uniforms/ hats • Personal possessions – we encourage children to not bring items of value to school. Cellphones should not be used in school time – can be given to teacher at the start of the day. • Children are expected to wear full and correct uniform – please send to school with a note or email if this is not possible • All children are required to wear a hat in Terms 1 and 4

  9. Trips • We are going to Goat Island this term (7th March – cost $31.00) – we need plenty of parent help! Please return the permission slip and payment ASAP

  10. Behaviour • Class Treaty • School Expectations • Positive Behaviour Rewards • F and C Words

  11. Swimming lessons • Year 5 swimming intensive most days – please send to school with togs EVERY DAY

  12. homework • Is issued on a Monday and due Friday • Please support your child in completing their homework to a high standard – spelling and basic facts are essential • Homework should not be a stress – please send a note if your child has been unable to complete their homework fully on a given week

  14. Reports/learning journeys/slc’s • Term 2: Student-led Conferences & Progress towards National Standards • Term 3: Learning Journeys to go home on request • Term 4: End of year written reports

  15. stationery • As we are in Week 2, all children should now have their stationery at school

  16. We have an exciting and busy year ahead, and I look forward to getting to know you and your children more, and striving to help them to achieve their full potential.
