  1. Anatomy JEOPARDY!

  2. Vocab for 100 Variation

  3. What is difference among the same species?

  4. Vocab for $200 Adaptation

  5. What is a trait that allows the species to survive and reproduce?

  6. Vocab for $300 Basic rank of classification. Group of organisms that share similar characteristics and reproduce with each other.

  7. What is species?

  8. Vocab for $400 Change over time.

  9. What is evolution?

  10. Vocab for $500 Natural Selection

  11. What is the process by which inheritable traits that make it more likely for an organism to survive and successfully reproduce become more common in a population over successive generations.

  12. Darwin for $100 Name the scientists who Darwin used to come up with his theory.

  13. Who Buffon, Lamark, Malthus, Lyell and Wallace?

  14. Darwin for $200 How did Darwin reach his theory?

  15. Traveled on the Beagle to South America. Made observations on what he saw. Compared to past scientists and what he new from back home.

  16. Darwin for $300 Name the two parts to his theory.

  17. What are descent with modification and natural selection?

  18. Darwin for $400 Explain Descent with modification.

  19. What is the process of species moving to different habitats and surviving to reproduce and passing on the species traits?

  20. Darwin for $500 What does descent with modification lead to?

  21. What is biodiversity?

  22. Natural Selection for $100 Explain natural selection.

  23. What is the process by which inheritable traits that make it more likely for an organism to survive and successfully reproduce become more common in a population over successive generations.?

  24. Natural Selection for $200 Explain how natural selection works on individuals but overall populations evolve.

  25. A specific organisms variation gets selected for. When this occurs the organism is able to survive and reproduce which then passes on the variation. As time goes on more and more offspring will have the variation so the population evolves to that variation?

  26. Natural Selection for $300 How do variation and adaptation relate?

  27. Variation is what causes adaptations to occur. If a variation makes an organism successful, then it is considered an adaptation. If the variation doesn’t then the species dies off.

  28. Natural Selection for $400 Variation Different reproductive success Traits are inherited

  29. What are the 3 things that have to be in place for selection to take place?

  30. Natural selection for $500 Giraffes

  31. Old population of giraffes had shorter necks. Variation within the population had longer necks. As food moved higher the longer neck variation was more successful while the shorter neck variation died off. The longer necks reproduced and that variation was more common. Over time the longer neck variation kept occurring and got selected until today’s giraffe.

  32. Evidence $100 Fossils

  33. Provide age, structure and behavior clues of species in the past.

  34. Evidence for $200 Molecular level

  35. The closer the DNA and/or amino acid sequences the closer the species are in relationship.

  36. Evidence for $300 Embryology

  37. Study of development. Similar development equals common ancestry

  38. Evidence for $400 Geographic Distribution

  39. Similar species are close together. The farther apart a species is the greater the difference.

  40. Evidence for $500 Explain the 3 types of anatomical evidence.

  41. Homologous structures similar structure but different function  common ancestor2. Vestigial structure  type of homolgous structure  left over from common ancestor and serves no purpose now.3. Analogous structures  same function but different structure  no common ancestor but similar environmental change.

  42. Misc. for $100 Transitional Fossils

  43. What are fossils that connect the dots between a common ancestor and a modern species?

  44. Misc. for $200 Give an example of a modern trait found multiple species but has been modified for specific use.

  45. What are eyes, salamanders feet, penguins wings.

  46. Misc for $300 Species start of looking the same as embryos. What causes the change in development (ie. Gills or lungs)

  47. What are genes?

  48. Misc for $400 How does variation come about?

  49. Meiosis: law of segregation, independent assortment, crossing over Random mating Random fertilization Random Mutations
