Then, the child moved ten times 'round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like, "When you're older", must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town And they tell him, "Take your time. Woke up, it was a Chelsea morning, and the first thing that I heard Was a song outside my window, and the traffic wrote the words It came a-reeling up like Christmas bells, and rapping up like pipes and drums Oh, won't you stay We'll put on the day And we'll wear it 'till the night comes Woke up, it was a Chelsea morning, and the first thing that I saw Was the sun through yellow curtains, and a rainbow on the wall Blue, red, green and gold to welcome you, crimson crystal beads to beckon Chelsea morning Oh, won't you stay We'll put on the day There's a sun show every second Now the curtain opens on a portrait of today And the streets are paved with passersby And pigeons fly And papers lie Waiting to blow away Woke up, it was a Chelsea morning, and the first thing that I knew There was milk and toast and honey and a bowl of oranges, too

  7. Summary This poem starts off with the wonder of childhood. You imagine seeing a young kid catching bugs and the magical feeling they get while doing this. As the seasons go round and round, the child gets older, starts driving cars. Time keeps passing and reaches the end of his life circle. Poetic terms Line 8 and 9 is a metaphor. There’s rhyming throughout the poem but not a specific rhyme scheme. The mood of this poem to me is the sweetness of life. The sweetness of the little kid being so happy, and aging in general. “Car wheels” are a symbol for being sixteen. “Round” is used very often for repetition. Theme I think the theme of this poem is ageing and the stages of life. I really liked this poem because it got me thinking. I think the wording made it very easy to imagine and it I thought it was very well written. AnalysisCircle game
