  1. POSTICTAL PSYCHOSIS CASE CONTROL STUDY

  2. INTRODUCTION patients with long – standing history of seizures are more susceptible to develop psychiatric disorders, including postictal and interictal psychosis.

  3. THE CASE • A 30 years old male with long – standing history of epilepsy ( over 15 years ) walked into the out-pt. shouting, hallucinating, with aggressive behavior. • Held by his relatives enchanting Islamic slogans, laughing at times and threatening at times.

  4. According to his relatives this is the 3rd attack of psychosis and the longest. • He stopped taking his medication few months back. • Then he developed a generalized seizure followed by a lucid period of 2 days, then he became psychotic for a day and returned to normal.

  5. - This scenario repeated itself again with quick recovery. - The present episode lasted long ( over 2 days ) which made them – the relatives- bring him to out-pt.

  6. - pt. was restarted on his antiepileptic medication ( sod. Valproate ) and was put on low dose of antipsychotic medication mainly resperidone 3 mg. od.

  7. - His relatives were advised to give him after his recovery 1/2tab. Resperidone for a month along with his antiepileptic medication.
