Accessing OAM Through TMD’s

This document presents an overview of accessing the Sivers effect and transverse spin physics through data collected from the p+p collisions at RHIC. It highlights recent findings on the phi shift of back-to-back jets and hadrons, advancements in analyzing AN jets, direct photons, and open charm production, as well as Sivers moments from various experiments including HERMES, COMPASS, and JLab. Future studies aim to explore high-intensity muon beams and further investigate transverse target experiments, as well as the spin dependence of kT, enhancing our understanding of fundamental QCD processes.

  1. Accessing OAM Through TMD’s p+p and SIDIS C. Aidala, QCD-N06

  2. p+p at RHIC • Sivers • Phi shift of back-to-back jets or hadrons—first results from 2006 data • AN jets—midrapidity + forward—2006-2007 • Separate Sivers and Collins • AN direct photons—forward/backward for q or g Sivers—2007? • AN open charm—gluon—first results 2006 (high statistics but not event-by-event), displaced vertex tagging possible ~2009 • AN photon+jet—x dependence—midrapidity ~2007 • AN W’s—Sivers flavor separation—2011?? C. Aidala, QCD-N06

  3. SIDIS • Sivers moment (HERMES, COMPASS, JLab) • HERMES data-taking finished, analysis ongoing • COMPASS has proton target now—unknown for transverse spin physics beyond 2006. Possible future high-intensity muon beam? • JLab approved proposal for transverse target in Hall A. Would be great if CLAS could put in transverse target as well—large acceptance. Transverse target experiments after 12 GeV upgrade? • EIC—broad Q2-x coverage C. Aidala, QCD-N06

  4. Other ideas • Spin dependence of <kT> • (Doug Fields unable to attend) • Look for additive or cancelling effects for same-spin vs. opposite-spin collisions, depending also on impact parameter • No good handle on impact parameter yet • See hep-ex/0605039 for unpolarized method of <kT> measurement • Hyperon polarization in unpolarized p+p to access Boer-Mulders?? • ? C. Aidala, QCD-N06
