PHYSICAL CHANGES • Wrinkles and skin folds • Senses become less sharp • Reflexes and reaction time are slower • Bones are brittle/Joints are stiff • Many older people may prefer walking and swimming • Immune system becomes weak • Regular exercise and a healthful diet can contribute to making older adults feel well

  3. COGNITIVE CHANGES • Dementia: major losses in memory (senile after age 65) • Speech problems/Can’t perform simple tasks • Alzheimer’s: progressive deterioration of memory, language and physical functioning • Eventually people become unable to communicate or walk and require help eating
