  4. What do you do? • Secure airway • Control bleeding • Shock position • Keep warm • Call for help

  5. Minor Skin Injuries • Closed injury • Contusion (bruise) • Hematoma (pool of blood) • Crushing injury

  6. Minor Skin Injuries • Open injury • Abrasion • Penetrating wound • Laceration • Avulsion (separation of layers of skin)

  7. What do you do? • Rinse • Control Bleeding • Secure dressing • Splint • Check for signs of shock Ice Compression Elevation Splint

  8. Bleeding STOP THE BLEEDING! Pressure Dress Pressure Dressing Ice & Elevate Tourniquet

  9. Broken Limbs, Joint Sprains • Joint • Limb above and below • Limb • Joint above and below

  10. Stings and Bites • Sting • Remove stinger • Ice • Look for signs of shock • Watch CAB • Bites • Mark bite • Keep below level of heart • Look for signs of shock • Watch CAB

  11. Inflammation Infection • How do you know? • Swelling • Redness • Fever • Puss/discoloration • Smell • What do you do? • Clean • Antibiotic ointment • Doctor Ice Elevate

  12. Head Injuries CAB Stop bleeding Immobilize head Beware of neck injuries Go to hospital If bleeding from ears, don’t stop bleeding

  13. Stroke • “Brain Attack” • Symptoms: • Facial Droop • Arm Drift • Speech

  14. Follow CAB C – Circulation A – Airway B – Breathing
