  3. Student Success Data(okay retention) • 2002-2007 Strategic Plan: Initiative #1Retention • Title III Grant: Strengthening Student Success and Retention through Improved Information Access and Services • AQIP Action Plan: Design and implement programs to enhance student success and retention • Institutional Effectiveness: Each College / Unit provided an update and evaluation of their activities

  4. Strategic Initiative #1 By 2007, DSU will have retention and graduation rates that are among the highest in the Regental system • DSU will increase first-year student retention rates to 70%; and will increase 6-year graduation rates to 45% • DSU will increase the overall retention rates, the first year retention rates and the graduation rates of special student populations

  5. Retention Activities • Committee • Nine Specific Action Plans (Title III) • Freshman Seminar • Advanced Connections • Early Alert • Course Redesign • Others

  6. Retention Data DSU’s first-year retention for full-time, baccalaureate degree-seeking students: • 2003 Cohort N=247: 64.8% returned Fall 2004 (21.2) • 2004 Cohort N=227: 70.0% returned Fall 2005 (21.3) • 2005 Cohort N=246: 65.9% returned Fall 2006 (21) • 2006 Cohort ACT 21.5 Comparison data • Peers at less selective institutions (ACT below 21): 69.7% • Peers at moderately selective institutions (ACT 21.0-22.4): 73.7%

  7. Statistical Retention Note From DSU’s Retention Statistician at Noel-Levitz • Retention scoring predicted a 60.9% retention rate for DSU freshmen for Fall 05 Cohort • Without interventions this cohort was predisposed to a lower retention rate than the previous two years • One interpretation: The 66% retention rate represents an improvement over the predicted outcome, supporting the impact of the interventions

  8. Fall-to-Spring Retention Fall to Spring Persistence for first-time, full-time baccalaureate degree-seeking students* • Fall 2004 to Spring 2005:  193/227 = 85.0% • Fall 2005 to Spring 2006:  216/246 = 87.8% • Fall 2006 to Spring 2007:  258/289 = 89.3% *CSRDE (Consortium for Student Retention Data Exchange) Cohort
