Topics covered include graduation requirements, required courses, elective options, summer school opportunities, career development programs, and language requirements.

  8. Summer School Grade 8-9 Skill building (JULY) • 3 weeks at North Delta Secondary • Remedial for students with 40-49% • Courses: Math, English, Socials, Science Grade 10 Full credit (JULY-AUG) 5 weeks at North Delta Secondary Inform Counsellor if taking summer school courses.

  15. Math Pathways • Workplace Topics include: • Measurement • Geometry • Algebra • Number • Statistics & Probability 3-4 hours homework per week Good for entry into majority of trades and other jobs in the work force.

Math Pathways • Foundations Topics include: • Relations & Functions • Financial Math • Geometry • Measurement • Number, Logical Reasoning • Statistics & Probability **For MOST college/university-bound students** 5-6 hours homework per week For post-secondary studies in programs that do not require the study of theoretical calculus.

Math Pathways • Pre-Calculus • **80% and higher recommended Topics include: • Algebra & Number • Relations & Functions • Trigonometry • Permutations • Combinations & Binomial Theorem • Measurement 8-10 hours homework per week For post-secondary studies in programs that require the study of theoretical calculus (Engineering, Commerce, Medicine)

  18. Do I Need a 2nd Language? • A second language is not required for graduation • 2nd language to Grade 11 may be required for University entrance, if apply straight from high school • UBC: Language 11 (French 11, Spanish 11, Punjabi 11…) • SFU: Intro 11 (Spanish 11 Beginners) or Language 11 • 2nd language often not needed if you do first 2 years at Kwantlen or Douglas, then transfer to SFU or UBC for 3rd and 4th years. • Most Apprenticeships, Trade Programs do not require 2nd language • Language Challenge – apply in October
