Majorly used in Asian and Middle Eastern cooking, spices add flavor to any boring food. In India, nearly 5 to 7 spices are used in daily cooking. This is not just to enhance the taste but also to add aroma, color and various health benefits of spices to your daily meal. The most common spices used on a regular basis are ginger, garlic, cardamom, mustard, saffron, nutmeg, pepper, turmeric, cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and many more. Every spice has its own medicinal quality which is used to cure small ailments. Be it curing stomach problem, pain, fungal infection, seasonal diseases, stopper on growth of life-threatening diseases like cancer and heart diseases, everything can be achieved by using small amount of these spices. Common Spices with Health Benefits: Garlic: It might be the smelliest spice but gives maximum health benefits. Eating garlic purifies your blood, boost up metabolism and also improves immunity. From olden times, garlic has been used for cooking and making antiviral or antibacterial medicines. Garlic is also a rich source of Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Allicin, and Selenium. Research shows that consuming garlic on a regular basis can prevent clotting of blood and cancerous growth. Ginger: This spice is known for zingy taste used in Asian food and tea. Ginger is rich in fiber, iron, magnesium and Vitamin E. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this spice boost immune system in winter or rainy season when your body is prone to the cough and cold. It also provides a soothing sensation to a dry itchy throat. Turmeric: This spice is known for its medicinal properties around the world. With the chemical compound Curcumin present in turmeric, it is effective in treating arthritis and preventing the growth of cancerous cells in the body. Turmeric is also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties making it the king of all the spices. Pepper: One of the extensively used spices around the world, Pepper contain an enzyme called Capsaicin which is anti-inflammatory in nature. This enzyme helps in breaking fat cells in the body which boost natural weight loss. Also, pepper contains pain relieving properties which have found useful for curing arthritis. If taken in small quantity, pepper can prevent heart disease and stomach ulcers. Cumin: The best source to consume iron through spices is by eating cumin. If you have a stomach problem or have a weak digestive system, then by ingesting cumin will help break down food molecules and strengthen the digestive system. Cloves: With the presence of Eugenol, Cloves gets anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and mild anesthetic properties.
